Swimming & Diving Lead Institutions' Academic Scores

The latest NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) shows that Division I student-athletes are increasingly succeeding in the classroom and swimming and diving continues to lead the way.  Men's teams saw their single-year score rise two points to 981 while women's programs gained a point to 992.  Once again, women's swimming posted the second-highest APR among sports with fifty or more teams while the men again earned the fourth-highest score.

That success compared to other sports extended down to the campus level.  Fifty-seven swimming and diving teams earned the highest APR in their athletic department with ten schools leading the way for both men's and women's departments.  Those programs included Davidson College, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Michigan State, Oakland, Penn, Southern Illinois, Villanova and William & Mary.

Fifty seven teams received NCAA public recognition awards after scoring in the top 10 percent.  Of those, four - Dartmouth and Georgetown's women and Holy Cross' men's and women's programs have earned the award in each of the program's thirteen years.

The news from the NCAA comes in advance of the CSCAA recognizing its Scholar All-America teams.  Last spring the association recognized 671 teams for achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The schools where swimming and diving posting their institution's highest APRs are listed below.
