July 31, 2024 -The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has issued a statement in response to the proposed settlement agreements in the cases of NCAA v. House, NCAA v. Hubbard, and NCAA v. Carter. These settlements mark a pivotal moment in the ongoing evolution of college athletics, bringing both new opportunities and significant challenges to collegiate sports programs across the nation.
CSCAA Executive Director, Samantha Barany, addressed the implications of these developments, stating, “The future of college athletics is rapidly changing, and this settlement will undoubtedly create challenges for schools across the country. However, the CSCAA remains committed to advocating for the long-term sustainability of swimming and diving programs on college campuses. The time is now to think differently, be open to change, and work collectively to ensure our sports thrive in this new landscape.”
Barany urged coaches to proactively engage with their athletic departments, encouraging them to play an active role in shaping the future of collegiate athletics. “It's essential for coaches to work closely with their athletic departments to be a part of the future,” she said. “By collaborating, we can develop strategies that not only preserve opportunities for our swimmers and divers but also build successful teams that reflect the best of what college sports can offer.”
The CSCAA encourages its members and all stakeholders in the swimming and diving community to stay informed and engaged as these legal proceedings continue to unfold.
