CSCAA Announces Cancellation of College National Open Water Championship

Hosted by Florida International University, the CSCAA’s 2022 College Open Water National Championship was held at Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida. FIU is set to host the event again in 2024.

Miami, FL – The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2023 College National Open Water Championship, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 17, at Florida International University (FIU).

Unprecedented weather conditions have made it impossible to ensure the safety and fairness of the competition. After careful consideration, the CSCAA made the difficult decision to cancel the event.

“We are deeply disappointed to cancel this year’s championship, as we know how much it means to the athletes, coaches, and fans,” said Samantha Barany, CSCAA Executive Director. “The safety of our participants is always our top priority, and this decision, while regrettable, was necessary given the circumstances.”

Looking ahead, the CSCAA is excited to return to FIU in 2024 and is committed to hosting an unforgettable championship event. Details for next year’s competition will be shared in the coming months.
