CSCAA Sets Convention Record

Colorado Springs, CO – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) shattered nearly every previous attendance record for its Digital Convention. With 635 coaches in attendance, the association nearly doubled its previous record of 320 attendees. Seventy-one diving coaches also attended, tripling the previous mark.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors and our President Joe Dykstra, I want to thank all of the coaches, leaders, and sponsors who participated,” stated Executive Director Greg Earhart. “We didn’t really know what to expect, but from everything we’ve heard, coaches really appreciated the opportunity to get together and have been overwhelmed with the volume of content.”

In addition to the record attendance, the Convention offered a record number of speakers starting with a who’s who of technique and training led by Wisconsin’s Yuri Suguiyama, the legendary Ernie Maglischo, and Jay Holmes and Jason Calanog from Texas A&M. The program also highlighted:

  • Arthur Bryant, Matt Crispino, and Jamie Platt, the architects that led the fight to successfully reinstate programs at William & Mary, LaSalle, East Carolina, and Dartmouth.

  • Nine “Conversations With Legends”, one-on-one interviews with icons of the sport like Eddie Reese, Cyndi Gallagher, Jack Bauerle, Susan Teeter, Dennis Pursley and more.

  • Several top club and high school coaches including 2020 USOPC Developmental Coach-of-the-Year Dana Skelton

In total attendees had access to seventy-four sessions over the four-day period and registrants will continue to have access to 45 hours of content through June 7th.

The event closed with CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart’s annual State of the Union address. Earhart addressed challenges facing intercollegiate athletics, specifically COVID-19, and the economic impact it is having on post-secondary institutions. The year has been challenging, the sport witnessed nearly as many new teams as program eliminations. These included the addition of men’s programs at Nebraska-Omaha and Wagner College.

As successful as the convention was, Earhart is looking forward to having the event in person once again. The 2022 CSCAA Convention will take place May 2-5, 2022 in Rosemont, Illinois. The Convention celebrates the CSCAA’s Centennial and Earhart promises several new additions.
