In Memorium: Tony Lisa

Over the weekend we lost a fellow coach, a friend, a mentor, and someone who brought a lot of joy to our sport.  Tony Lisa was not only a coach at his alma mater, Rowan University or Glassboro State as it was known when Tony stalked the soccer pitch for the Profs, he was also a president of the CSCAA, a shoulder to lead on in hard times and someone who was always learning.  His obituary is linked below, but I wanted to share some words from his former colleagues:

Our Strategy

Our goal is to make Swimming and Diving the strongest collegiate sport, so last Spring was a gut punch.  Buffalo cut their men’s team, Quincy dropped their women, while Clemson put the final nail into their aquatics program, eliminating diving.  Worst of all, Wright State and North Dakota reneged on promises to save their teams.  The cuts were devastating, not just for the coaches and athletes affected, but also to myself, our staff and our board.  How could we have been better prepared?  What could we have done better?

When Cutting a Team Imperils a University

The lack of understanding of how a team contributes to the student experience, the institutional mission and the institution’s fiscal health really shows how shortsighted this decision is.  They don’t understand how additional cuts to programs and faculty will further undermine the University’s future
