Final Matchups set following Day 2 of Dual Meet Challenge

Day two set the stage for an unprecedented championship weekend as athletes took on the 200s of stroke, the 50, 100, 200 and 500 freestyles, the 200 IM, and both the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays.  Both number one seeds, Virginia women and Arizona State men remained undefeated on the weekend to advance to the final. The Arizona State women fell in their second matchup of the weekend to Tennessee while the Virginia men lost a tight meet to Michigan.

Michigan and Tennessee then squared off for the second time in two days, each racing their third meet in 24 hours in a match that displayed resiliency, strategy and thrilling racing. In the end, the Tennessee Men and Michigan Women had just a little more left in the tank to pull out victories and advance to the championship meets where they will meet Arizona State and Virginia respectively.  The battle for third will take place tomorrow at 10:00 AM between the Michigan and Virginia men, while the Tennessee and Arizona State women. Men's Results

#1 Arizona State 33 vs #2 Tennessee 11

In the men’s meet between Arizona State Sun Devils and Tennessee Volunteers, Arizona State took control early and maintained momentum throughout, sweeping key events including the 200 IM and 200 fly to build what turned out to be an insurmountable lead. Tennessee showed flashes of what got them into the winners bracket, including Gui Caribe’s win in the 100 free, but the Sun Devils’ depth and dominance down the lineup powered them to victory. Of note, Ilya Kharun recorded an 18.68 butterfly split on the Sun Devils’ 200 medley relay, the fastest in history. Arizona state will advance to the championship final. 

#3 Michigan 24 vs #4 Virginia 20

The Michigan and Virginia men traded wins throughout a tightly contested showdown, but Michigan ultimately pulled ahead with a commanding victory in the 200 medley relay and a sweep of the 500 free. Virginia answered with a sweep in the 200 back to narrow the margin, but late Michigan wins in the 200 breast and 200 free relay secured the meet. Michigan advances to face Tennessee in a rematch of yesterday’s Meet Two, while Virginia will prepare for the battle for third at 10:00 AM on Sunday.

#2 Tennessee 36 vs #3 Michigan 5

Tennessee’s men controlled the meet from start to finish, opening with a decisive win in the 200 medley relay and surging ahead behind standout performances in the Freestyle events going 1-2 in the 50, 100, 200 and 500.Tennessee capped the meet with a powerful 200 free relay win to secure a convincing 36–5 victory. Tennessee will advance to meet Arizona State for a rematch at 12:45 PM tomorrow while Michigan will once again see Virginia at 10:00 AM in what promises to be an exciting final day of the Dual Meet Challenge.

Women's Results

#1 Virginia 43 vs #2 Michigan 1

On the women’s side, the Virginia Cavaliers delivered an impressive performance against the Michigan Wolverines, winning each individual race, including standout swims by Anna Moesch who set the top Women’s 200 Freestyle time in the country as well as becoming the 5th woman ever under 46.00 in the 100 Free. Virginia will advance to the championship meet looking to complete an undefeated weekend.

#3 Tennessee 25 vs #4 Arizona State 19

The Tennessee women captured the momentum early, winning the 200 medley relay and extending their lead with strong performances from Camille Spink in the sprints and Ella Jansen in the 200 IM and 500 free. Arizona State kept pace in several events, including the 200 free and 200 back, but Tennessee’s depth and relay strength ultimately propelled them to the win. Tennessee will once again take on Michigan in a rematch of their first meet of the weekend, with the winner advancing to face Virginia in the final. Arizona State will face the team that falls short in that matchup in the battle for third place tomorrow.

#2 Michigan 27 vs  #3 Tennessee 17

Michigan delivered a commanding performance against Tennessee in Meet 5, taking control from the opening relay and never looking back. The Wolverines swept early momentum with a sweep in the 200 free and withstood a narrow Tennessee victory in the 50 free helping the Lady Vols stay competitive, but Michigan’s depth proved decisive. Bella Sims posted key wins in both the 200 IM (1:54.59) and 200 back (1:51.96). Michigan sealed the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay, securing a 27–17 final score.
