Virginia Women, Cal Men atop Preseason Poll

The Virginia Women and Cal Men Debut at #1 in the CSCAA Preseason Polls

September 26, 2024 - The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released the Preseason edition of the Division I Top 25 dual meet poll. The University of Virginia women  land at number one, while the University of Cal men claim the top spot.

The committee, consisting of Division I coaches, assesses and ranks the nation's top 25 dual meet teams. Their evaluation takes into account head-to-head dual meet outcomes, performances since the last rankings, season-long performances, dual meet records, roster changes (such as injuries), and data from the SwimCloud Simulator. It's important to note that the poll's objective is not to predict the top finishers in a championship meet format.

The Cal Bears (365) debut at the top of the men's poll to kick off the 2024-25 dual meet season, moving up two spots from their final position last year. Florida (356) ranks second, while Texas (343) is third. Indiana (337) and NC State (318) complete the top five. A total of thirty-three programs across seven conferences received at least one vote in this season’s initial poll.

On the women's side, the top-ranked Cavaliers (375 points) picked up where they left off the previous two years, coming in as the unanimous choice for the number one spot. Texas (358 points) ranks second, with Florida (340), Stanford (334) and Tennessee (317), rounding out the top five. Twenty-nine programs across six conferences received at least one vote at the start of the season.

Each committee consists of twelve representatives from Power Four leagues and four from at-large programs. The committee chairs for women and men are Naya Higashijima (NMU) and Bill Roberts (Navy), respectively.
