Unprecedented Weather forces cancellation of the 2023 College National Open Water

 

Hosted by Florida International University, the CSCAA’s 2022 College Open Water National Championship took place at Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida.

Unprecedented weather conditions in Miami during this particular time of the year disrupted numerous training trips and led to the regrettable decision to cancel the 2023 Collegiate Open Water Championship. As the weather worsened throughout the week preceding the event, it became apparent that ensuring safety for support vessels, crucial for the swimmers' well-being, would be challenging.

Initially set to take place at the scenic Florida International University Biscayne Bay campus, the event faced formidable challenges due to the unpredictable weather. Despite this setback, there is optimism for the future, as plans are already in progress to host the Collegiate Open Water Championship at FIU again in December 2024. More detailed information about the 2024 event is expected in the coming weeks, providing participants and enthusiasts with the necessary details to anticipate and prepare for the eagerly awaited competition.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) is the first professional association of college coaches in the United States.  The CSCAA is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level. The CSCAA works to
