CSCAA Announces 2024 Division I Women’s Awards and All-America Team

UVA Head Coach, Todd DeSorbo, Texas Dive Coach Matt Scoggin and UNC Dive Coach, Yaidel Gamboa earn CSCAA Coach of the Year honors.

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its NCAA Women's Division I award winners and All-Americans for the 2023-24 season.

The awards were determined by a vote of CSCAA-member Division I head swimming coaches and head diving coaches. All-Americans are selected on the basis of their finish at the NCAA Championships and a team's current membership with the CSCAA.  Only student-athletes who competed in their championship finals are eligible for All-America Honors. NCAA relays & individuals must score in the top 8 to earn first-team honors while those who finish ninth through sixteenth earn second-team honors.

Swim Coach of the Year Award

After the Virginia Cavaliers captured their fourth consecutive NCAA women’s title Saturday night, coach Todd DeSorbo was recognized by his peers as the Women's Swim Coach of the Year. The Cavalier women captured gold in 11 events on their way to totaling 527.5 points.

Dive Coach of the Year Awards

Matt Scoggin, Texas and Yaidel Gamboa, North Carolina have been voted CSCAA Dive Co-Coaches of the Year following their team’s performances at NCAAs. Coach Scoggin and the Texas women scored two athletes in the top eight on both 1-meter and 3-meter, as well as placing one athlete on the podium during the platform competition. Coach Gamboa helped lead Aranza Vazquez to titles on 1-meter and 3-meter for a second year in a row, earning her Diver of the Meet.

Swimmer of the Year Award

Gretchen Walsh from the University of Virginia was named the CSCAA Swimmer of the Year following a record shattering performance at NCAAs. Walsh broke three records on her way to winning the 50 and 100 Free as well as the 100 Fly.

Diver of the Year Award

Aranza Vazquez from North Carolina was named the CSCAA Diver of the Year for a second consecutive year. Vazquez once again claimed titles on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards to help the Tar Heel women finish 17th at NCAA Championships.

All-American Honors

245 athletes from 42 institutions earned First or Second Team All-America honors. Texas and Virginia each had 16 women named to the First or Second Team All-America roster.
