Arizona State Men and Virginia Women Ranked #1 in Dual Meet Polls

The Arizona State Men and University of Virginia Debut at #1 in the CSCAA Preseason Polls

October 12, 2023 - Lewisburg, PA - The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released the pre-season edition of the Division I Top 25 dual meet poll. The Arizona State men and University of Virginia women are the projected top dual meet teams in the country. Both teams were ranked first in the final poll of the 2022-23 season.

The committee, consisting of Division I coaches, assesses and ranks the nation's top 25 dual meet teams. Their evaluation takes into account head-to-head dual meet outcomes, performances since the last rankings, season-long  performances, dual meet records, roster changes (such as injuries), and data from the SwimCloud Simulator. It's important to note that the poll's objective is not to predict the top finishers in a championship meet format.

In the men's rankings, the Sun Devils secured the top spot to kick off the season with an impressive 299 points, earning all but one first-place vote. California, with 289 points, received the remaining first-place vote and claimed the second position. Florida (272), NC State (264), and Indiana (254) rounded out the top five teams for the season. Notably, 32 teams received votes as the year began.

In the women's rankings, the top-ranked Cavaliers enjoyed unanimous support among voters, securing the first-place position. Texas (336) debuted at the second spot, followed closely by Louisville (313), NC State (308), and Ohio State (287) to complete the top five. A total of 33 teams received votes in the women's pre-season rankings.

Each committee includes ten representatives from the Power Five leagues and five at-large programs. The women and men committee chairs are Naya Higashijima (NMU) and Bill Roberts (Navy). This was the first poll of the season.

The 2023-2024 Division I polls are scheduled for release on: Thursday. October 12, 2023; Thursday November 16, 2023; Thursday, December 14, 2023; Thursday January 25, 2024; Thursday February 8, 2024 and Thursday February 29, 2024.
