In Memorium: Tony Lisa

Over the weekend we lost a fellow coach, a friend, a mentor, and someone who brought a lot of joy to our sport.  Tony Lisa was not only a coach at his alma mater, Rowan University or Glassboro State as it was known when Tony stalked the soccer pitch for the Profs, he was also a president of the CSCAA, a shoulder to lead on in hard times and someone who was always learning.  His obituary is linked below, but I wanted to share some words from his former colleagues:

What AD's are Asking Us

Hiring season is upon us.

With at least four positions open and three new programs coming online and looking for a coach, hiring season is officially open.  In fact, the data shows that in a given year 10% of teams will hire a new head coach and almost a quarter will hire an assistant.

Our Strategy

Our goal is to make Swimming and Diving the strongest collegiate sport, so last Spring was a gut punch.  Buffalo cut their men's team, Quincy dropped their women, while Clemson put the final nail into their aquatics program, eliminating diving.  Worst of all, Wright State and North Dakota reneged on promises to save their teams.  The cuts were devastating, not just for the coaches and athletes affected, but also to myself, our staff and our board.  How could we have been better prepared?  What could we have done better?

Endowing a Program

Over the past couple of days this video, unveiling the campaign to endow the scholarships of the Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving, has been circulating on the internet. The video is tremendous, featuring legendary coaches, athletes and moments to remind us of the special elements of our sport.  While the video is great, it doesn’t tell the whole story.

Behind the scenes there is significant work and planning to produce a fundraising campaign of this magnitude.

Announcing the 2016 CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Championship

 

Join Kansas swimming and diving and the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association for CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championships at Lone Star Lake near Lawrence, Kansas this summer. The top collegiate men’s and women’s distance swimmers with qualifying times from NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA competition are invited to the 5K open water races scheduled for Sept. 17, 2016.
