Sitting Down With McGee Moody

McGee Moody is well underway in his 13th season as Head Coach at the University of South Carolina. We managed to chat with the Gamecock leader about his experiences leading up to this point. McGee, an East Carolina Pirate graduate of ’98, was fortunate enough to begin his coaching career in his backyard, but through the years this career has allowed him to coach at some of the most respected programs in the nation. Florida and California lead the Dual Meet Ranks in the TYR Top 25 Poll

The second TYR Top 25 Division I poll is in the books . After two weeks worth of meets since the preseason poll was released (October 9), the committee saw enough evidence to keep the California men at number one. Also remaining in their preseason position are the Texas (2) and NC State (3) men. Missouri (4) and Indiana (5) climb into the top five. The Florida Gators moved into the top spot on the women’s side, after convincing road wins against Minnesota and Missouri. The Stanford women drop one spot to number two this week, while the Lady Vols made the largest climb from number 15 to number three after beating preseason #2, Virginia in Knoxville. Auburn and California take fourth and fifth on the women’s side.

This year's CSCAA / TYR Top 25 Division III Pre-Season Poll puts the Denison men and Emory women in the top spots. Denison finished the 2018-2019 season ranked first in the men' poll while Emory ended last season ranked second, behind the Denison women.

Simultaneously, we're becoming increasingly disposable with the number of college coaches fired rising for the third straight year. A handful of firings were performance-related and a few more the result of the coach’s own failings. The majority, though, were the result of behavioral issues on the team, staff insurrection or both.

Board Spotlight: Jeff Hegle

Jeff Hegle is beginning his 19th season on deck with St. Cloud State. In his 18 completed seasons, Hegle has led the Huskies to numerous NCAA Division II Championship meets, consistently finishing among the best in the country and a plethora of accolades in the classroom. In 2015 Coach Hegle was elected to the CSCAA Board of Directors with the goal of“[...] giving back to college swimming on a larger scale and representing Division II.” In May, Coach Hegle will complete his third term on the Board.
